1) Help! My hazelnuts are getting pushed to the side of my blender/food processor. When blending a small quantity of roasted nuts in a larger blender/ food processor, the blades may chop them for a moment, then ultimately push them to the edges, outside of their reach. If this happens, stop your blender/food processor, and scrape the edges so the nuts are in range of the blades. Close the lid then continue blending on a low setting. You may need to do this a few times before the mixture starts to blend well on its own. It takes some patience, but we promise it will be worth it! Note: If you watch your blender closely, you may even notice the mixture moving up the walls then bits falling down into the blades. This is a good thing! As long as your blender/food processor is in sound condition, you can keep it running for a few minutes and see if it turns into hazelnut butter with its own circulation. Feel free to stop and scrape down as needed.
2) Do you have any tips on melting butter and chocolate chips together? Butter and chocolate chips can be melted together in a microwave safe bowl or combined in the top pot or bowl of a double boiler. It's important to keep in mind that butter has a lower melting point than chocolate. That means it turns into a liquid first. Your butter may be completely melted while the chips are still mostly solid. When your butter becomes a liquid, your mixture will look soupy. This is exactly the time when you can use the different melting points to your advantage. Vigorously, yet carefully, stirring your mixture will allow the butter to help melt the chocolate chips. Doing this is critical as the stirring helps melt the chocolate chips, preventing them from getting scorched by the heat of the butter.
3) What can I use if I don't have a rolling pin to crush the nuts? In this recipe most sturdy objects will do! Metal water bottles, canned goods, or even a strong coffee mug will get the job done.
4) How much ice cream should we use in this recipe? This is totally up to your discretion! We used a smaller cookie dough scoop for the photos and video, but please add as much or little as you would like!
