*Due to in-stock supply issues we had to source a different orange candy slice than the one we originally had planned for this recipe. The orange slices that are in your baking kit were just as carefully selected as the previous ones and are equally as delicious!

1.) How long will my cupcakes keep in the refrigerator after adding the orange gelatin and before frosting?

Answer: If you would like to bake your cupcakes in advance, you can make them through step 6. Place your cupcakes in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2 days.

2.) How can I fix my frosting if it is over whipped?

Answer: If your frosting is over whipped for the best finished product, you should start the process over. However, if you don't have all of the ingredients on hand to start from scratch here is a little trick to help bring back your frosting. Scoop your over whipped frosting into a medium bowl using a spatula. In your mixer bowl add in 1 cup of heavy cream. Using the whisk attachment turn your mixer on medium speed and whip the cream to soft peaks. This is the stage where you can see track marks in the cream. Add the soft whipped cream to the bowl with your over whipped cream. Fold the soft cream into the over whipped cream.

3.) How long will frosted cupcakes keep?

Answer: Frosted cupcakes are best consumed the day they are made, however they will keep in the refrigerator for up to one day in an air tight container. If you are making your cupcakes a day in advance of consuming them, add the orange candy slice right before you plan to consume the cupcakes so that it doesn't become soggy in the refrigerator.

4.) How do I make that fancy orange peel curl to decorate my cupcakes?

Answer: There are a couple of different techniques you can use to create an orange peel curl. If you have a citrus strip zester, you can take this tool, place the large hole at the top of the orange and press in while rotating the orange in a circle to create one long strand that can be cut into several strips. If you don't have a zester you can use a vegetable peeler. Start at the top of the orange, press down lightly with the peeler and rotate the orange as if you were peeling an apple, to create one long strip of peel. When using a vegetable peeler take care not to go too deep and cut off the pith (the white part of the orange). It has a bitter taste. Take the peel and cut it with a small knife into the desired length. If the peel is too wide you can cut it into thinner strips. Take a toothpick and gently twist your peel around the toothpick to create a decorative curl. Place on the top of the cupcake to the side of the orange candy slice.

If you want to add some color, and some more citrusy flavor but don't want to make citrus curls, you can add some orange zest on top. Using your zester (that came in your baking box), take an additional orange and zest it over the top of each cupcake. A little sprinkle goes a long way.
