- What type of butter should I use? Unsalted butter is the best choice for all BEL box recipes. With salted butter, the amount of salt is unknown. Baking is a delicate balance and too much or too little of any ingredient can throw off a recipe. Since we don't know how much salt is in each stick of butter, it's best to use unsalted and add the exact amount of salt needed to the recipe.
